Tulsa Fire Museum Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month by Honoring Firefighter Miriam Bryant

TULSA, OK — September 18, 2025— The Tulsa Fire Museum proudly celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring one of our own trailblazers: Firefighter and Museum Board Member Miriam Bryant, recognized as the Tulsa Fire Department’s first Hispanic female firefighter.

At a special event held at the Museum, community members, firefighters, and friends gathered to recognize Bryant’s groundbreaking career and lasting impact. The celebration’s program featured a bilingual interview conducted by Professor Tina Peña of Tulsa Community College, who guided the conversation in both Spanish and English. Together, Peña and Bryant explored Miriam’s journey—from her early inspirations, the challenges she overcame, her proudest accomplishments, and the legacy she hopes to leave for future firefighters.

You can watch the full conversation and experience Bryant's story firsthand below.

The Tulsa Fire Museum was honored to celebrate Firefighter Miriam Bryant; not just for her history-making firsts, but for her continued service to our city and our Museum.
